Meet our staff!
Caroline Difrango Editor-in-Chief
My college experience has been... nontraditional. I was sent home my freshman spring, and then stayed home the following fall in fear of infecting my at-risk loved ones. The one thing that kept me connected to Elon during this time was Colonnades. I applied to be Editor-in-Chief to give back to the community that has meant so much to me. If you are having trouble finding your place on campus as I once did, try out Colonnades!
Sarah Rusthoven Art & Design Editor
A group of beautiful and creative individuals on Elon's campus come together each year to compose art and literature into a uniquely visionary journal... how could I not get involved. I have a passion for building community among artists, so leading the art committee my senior year has been the best way to contribute my skills and conclude my experience with Colonnades. I'm most grateful for the lifelong connections I have made, and for the overall existence of this wonderful student-crafted publication.
Jess Baker Nonfiction Section Editor
I chose to work on the magazine because I wanted to be involved in the literary scene on campus and I am super passionate about non-fiction. I love seeing everything that Elon students have to offer, especially the non-majors who end up submitting. I love the reader sessions where we talk through the pieces and I get new insights into the pieces. I think people should apply to work on the magazine because it's a collaborative effort; being on both sides (writer and editor gives you a new appreciation for the literary art.
Aidan Melinson Poetry Section Editor
Hey all! I chose to work on the magazine because it has given me invaluable experience in understanding what goes on in the publishing process once a piece is submitted. I've loved a lot about being a section editor, but one of my favorite parts has been working with my co-editor and the other section editors (who are pretty cool people) to help make the magazine the best it can be. I'd definitely recommend applying to Colonnades because it is a great way to engage with others' writing and art in a way that you typically can't do (and ya know, it's generally a fun time!).
Olivia Eller Associate Editor
I chose to work for Colonnades because I love editing, analyzing, and connecting creative writing and art pieces. My experience with Colonnades has allowed me to have a sense of leadership in editing and ownership over my published work, making me much more confident in my abilities as a writer and publisher. I recommend anyone interested in working with a community of supportive and creative people should consider joining the magazine!
Olivia Romano Fiction Section Editor
I wanted to be the fiction editor because I love reading creative writing from my peers and giving feedback. I also want to work in publishing and editing, and Colonnades has the type of collaborative and supportive team that I would love to work with after Elon. My favorite part about contributing to Colonnades is having conversations with other students interested in writing, editing, or reading in their free time. I recommend other students to work on the magazine if they are interested in hangout out in a welcoming environment and talking about amazing student writing!
Lucas Leveillee Nonfiction Section Editor
I chose to work on the magazine because I feel that Elon has a really impressive and wonderfully creative artistic community, and that putting our authors and artists on a pedestal allows the rest of the student body to see some of what we have to offer. My favorite part about working on the magazine is getting to sit down and talk out the strengths of our submissions with our readers. Getting to talk in a group and hear some fresh perspectives helps me appreciate the work we read in a way that I sometimes feel like I can't do alone. I would recommend others apply to work on Colonnades because at the end of the day, the staff is a very tigh-knit group of people putting their best foot forward to create a product that everyone who contributes can be proud of.
Alexandra Schneider Poetry Section Editor
Hi! Colonnades holds a special place in my heart because I have made so many wonderful friends and gotten to read incredible pieces. Colonnades is a testament to the talent of Elon students and their dedication to their craft, and it's such a privilege to be able to showcase and celebrate that work. I would recommend anyone interested in writing, art, or publishing to work with the magazine because it is a great experience, creating a finished journal is a feat and provides valuable skills! It is extremely fun and it is a surefire way to get involved with the arts at Elon, which is home to some of the very best people I have met here!
